Colour Monitoring

Benefits

  • Automatic color comparison results in consistent color throughout the run, with minimal operator effort

  • System includes the seven most commonly used color spaces

  • Color results have been proven by independent tests to correlate very closely to those from a spectrodensitometer

  • Color variations are shown in a visual display and as numerical values allowing the operator to quickly and effectively manage corrective action

  • Adjustable warning and alarm thresholds

  • Color variations can be recognized within a tolerance of ±1.0 ∆E

Consistent Color Roll-To-Roll

The Color Monitoring option performs automatic comparison of the actual on-press color with previously stored standard values at user-defined positions on the web. When actual print color approaches the set outside tolerance, an alarm alerts the operator and shows where the developing color problem is located on the web. The result is consistent color from roll-to-roll.

Multiple Color Spaces

The system supports the following color spaces:

  • CIELab - Commission Internationale de l’Èclairage Lab (luminance a and b)
  • CMYK - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black
  • RGB - Red, Green, Blue
  • HSI - Hue, Saturation & Intensity
  • Hunter Lab Hunter Lab color space (luminance a and b)
  • CIELuv - Commission Internationale de l’Èclairage Luv
  • XYZ - CIE standard valences

Depending on the color space selected, color deviations are indicated either as Delta E value or as biggest component difference.

Documented As Effective

A recent independent study was undertaken to access the correlation of color results between PREMIUS digital 3Chip

and a spectrodensitometer. The results, presented at the

North American Flexographic Technical Association Forum, found a striking correlation between color data from a spectrodensitometer and this system. No other system in the world has had its color effectiveness measured and reported by an independent study.

Display Of Color Values and Actual Print Versus The Standard

For each position, the current color values, the stored refer-

ence values and the detected color deviations are numerically displayed on the touch screen.

A graphic display of current and reference color, side-by-side, provides a means to visually check color consistency and recognize deviations instantaneously.

User Defined Warning And Alarm Thresholds

User-defined warning and alarm thresholds define the range of acceptable color. As soon as one of the detected differences exceeds the preset threshold, the system displays a warning or alarm message and triggers an alarm.
